Bowen Therapy is one of the most versatile and effective therapeutic and holistic soft tissue treatments available today. It is a gentle hands-on treatment, using light touch whilst making delicate and precise movements over the nerves, muscles and ligaments. Its ability to re-align and balance the body means it is effective for most conditions.
Simply put, Bowen Therapy can improve your overall general health and remove the negative effects of a stressful lifestyle.
Bowen Therapy is a technique developed by the late Tom Bowen; it is a form of soft tissue bodywork that is non-invasive. A treatment consists of a series of gentle moves on skin or through light clothing, with the client usually lying on a treatment table, although it is possible to be treated seated or even standing.
A session can take from 45minutes to an hour for an adult, however for young children and babies the time is shorter. Improvement is usually seen after the first couple of treatments, however chronic conditions often require additional sessions.
The holistic nature of Bowen means it is effective in addressing a wide range of conditions from injury to chronic illness. Bowen Therapy provides clients with a deep sense of relaxation during a session and assists them to maintain a sense of 'balance and wellbeing'.
A treatment involves a series of precise moves on specific points of the body, preformed over muscles, tendons and ligaments. Bowen influences the body’s fascia and connective tissues to initiate an innate healing response. Our bodies have an amazing capacity to heal when given the correct prompts. During a treatment there are frequent and important pauses, to allow the body time to respond. The pressure required to perform the moves are done within the client’s range of comfort.
The Bowen Technique is one of the most versatile and effective therapeutic treatments available today. It often triggers deep relaxation that enhances the physical and emotional well-being of a client. Bowen’s ability to re-align and balance the body means it is effective for many conditions.
Kerrie trained as a Bowen therapist in 2012 after experiencing severe sciatic pain, which limited her mobility. Bowen impacted Kerrie’s life within a few short weeks, enabling her to be pain free after many years of agony.
This sparked a passion in Kerrie to study the wonderful modality of Bowen Therapy aiming to share the same benefits with others. She subsequently studied Remedial Massage to increase her understanding of human anatomy, biomechanics and function.
In 2018 Kerrie embarked on further study by enrolling in the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy. Completing the course ahead of time in 2019, Kerrie has a wealth of knowledge that she brings into her treatments.
Kerrie’s other interests include healthy eating and keeping fit through running.
Her main focus is in ergonomics and looking outside the client’s physical treatment to bring about postural improvement and preventable injuries in the person’s lifestyle and workplace.
